Cancer Treatment and Body Systems (continue from Page 1)

Click here for quick access to body systems:

Heart and Circulatory system

Your heart is one of those important body systems.

Your heart is actually a muscle located to the left of your chest.

It sends blood that is full of oxygen and nutrients to the body and carries away waste from them.

The right side of your heart receives blood from the body and pumps it to thelungs.

The left side of your heart receives blood from the lungs and pumps it out to the body.

Your heart beats because it gets filled with blood, then contracts and squeezes it out to the body by tubes called blood vessels.

The blood vessels that carry blood away from the heart are called arteries and the ones that carry blood back to the heart are called veins.

The movement of blood throughout the body is called circulation.

Your body depends on this blood circulation to deliver oxygen to all the body's cells without which you will die.

Effective Cancer treatment depends on healthy blood circulation to deliver oxygen that can kill the Cancer cells.

The healthy cells take the oxygen out of the blood and use it and the cells' waste product is carbon dioxide, which is then carried away by the blood.

The carbon dioxide is carried to the lungs and then exhaled.

When you are exercising, your body needs more oxygen, so your heart pumps faster to supply the oxygen-filled blood to your body.

A Cancer patient cannot live in an environment that is filled with smog, smoke and toxic air that is void of oxygen.

The more oxygen you deliver to the Cancerous tissues, the faster will be your recovery.

The key is to keep your heart healthy and stay Cancer-free.

Since your heart is a muscle, you need to exercise regularly so that your heart's muscle is fit.

You need to eat healthy foods to feed your heart. Avoid foods that have unhealthy fats, such as saturated fats and trans fats.

You need to eat more than 50% of your food with fruits and vegetables every day.

Avoid refined sugar and table salt which are harmful for your heart.

Avoid smoking tobacco which damages your heart and blood vessels as well as your lungs.

Kidneys and Urinary tract system

Kidneys are one of those ignored body systems, maybe because it does most of the work in the background.

Everyone has a pair of kidneys about 5 inches long and 3 inches wide.

The main duty of the kidneys is to filter the waste out of the blood.

When your cells took in the nutrients and oxygen from the blood vessels, they discard out waste and carbon dioxide back into the blood.

The waste comes to the kidneys, and they are filtered out from the blood.

Do you know the kidneys filter your blood about 400 times a day!

The waste together with some water forms urine which is collected by the kidneys and delivered to the bladder.

From there, it is stored until it is time to be discharged from the body.

The kidneys, bladder and their connecting tubes form the urinary system.

Another work of the kidneys is to balance the volume of fluid and minerals in the body.

When you take in more water than you need, your brain will release hormones to inform the kidneys to release more urine.

When you don't have enough water, especially when you are exercising or sweating, then your kidneys will release urine with less water.

The kidneys are important organs in Cancer treatment because you want to discharge all the waste products especially the toxic matter out of your body as quickly as possible.

It could be for this reason of urgent discharge of toxin out of your system, that you have two kidneys instead of one, even though you can survive with just one kidney.

Cancer cells cannot survive when they have no toxic matter to feed on.

Lungs and respiratory system

The respiratory system will be one of those body systems, that will be suffer for most of the Lung Cancer cases.

Multi-national tobacco companies have hooked many smokers with their glamorous ads, resulting in huge leaps in lung cancer occurrences.

Your lungs and respiratory system takes in fresh air (full of oxygen) and get rid of stale air (full of carbon dioxide).

You have two lungs, one on the right and one on the left of your chest, and they are protected safely by the rib cage.

Below the lungs is the diaphragm, which is a dome-shaped muscle that helps your lungs to inhale and exhale air.

Inside your lungs are tiny air sacs (about 600 million of them called alveoli) and they are covered with very small blood vessels called capillaries.

As you breathe in, your diaphragm flattens allowing your lungs to grow larger as they are filled with air.

The air fills up the air sacs as the lungs expand in space.

On the surface of the air sacs, the oxygen from the air is passed into your blood in the capillaries.

The blood vessels then carry this oxygen-rich blood to the heart, where it is pumped to all the cells of the body.

When you exhale, the diaphragm relaxes and moves up, thus pushing the air out of your lungs.

The blood that contains the carbon dioxide and other wastes, deposits them into the air sacs, and you breathe them out of your lungs and finally out through your mouth and nose.

A common Cancer today is lung Cancer.

Researchers have found a direct link between smoking (direct and indirect smoking) and Cancer.

The chemicals in tobacco smoke damage the cells inside the air sacs and other parts of the lungs, causing them to breakdown.

When these good cells are destroyed or stops working, you will find it harder to breathe.

Cancer cells then replace them, and eventually your respiratory system will fail.

To keep your lungs healthy, breathe fresh air and exercise regularly. Exercise stretches your lung capacity making them stronger and better in supplying oxygen to the body.

Spleen and lymphatic system

One of the most unfamiliar body systems is the lymphatic system, yet this system is very crucial in Cancer treatment.

The lymphatic system is a drainage network of vessels that keeps your body fluid levels balanced and defends your body against infections.

It carries the fluid called lymph, which is a clear watery liquid containing protein molecules, salts, glucose, urea and other substances.

One of the works of the lymphatic system is to collect extra lymph fluid from the tissues in your body systems and return them to the blood.

The lymphatic system also defends the body against germs like viruses, bacteria and harmful microorganism that can cause sicknesses.

These harmful substances are deposited in the lymph nodes, which are small masses of tissues located along the lymph vessels.

The lymph nodes contain concentrated amounts of white blood cells called lymphocytes, and they fight and destroy these harmful microorganisms.

The nodes are mainly found in clusters in the neck, armpit and groin area.

The spleen which is located in the upper left part of the abdomen under the rib cage, is part of the lymphatic system that protects your body systems.

It removes the dead red blood cells and other foreign matter from the blood. It also contains white blood cells that can destroy bacteria.

The lymph vessels are unlike blood vessels where the heart pumps the blood in the vessels.

There is no pump for moving the lymph fluid.

The lymph fluid inside the vessels only moves along when the nearby muscles pushes it along.

Because of the nature of lymph vessels, Cancer patients are advised to make use of the Rebounder exercise equipment (mini-trampoline also called a Lymphasizer), to assist the lymphatic system to function better.

Never go for an operation to remove the lymph nodes, unless your life is at stake, even though there are ample nodes inside each body.

The lymph nodes act as a collection center for dead cells, dead bacteria, germs, microorganism and other foreign matter, to be removed out of your body system.

When the lymph nodes are over burdened, swelling may occur. The best way to remove the swell is to rebuild the immune system, and work at having a healthy lymphatic system.

The swelling of a particular node normally reveals a nearby infection somewhere.

Lymphomas are Cancers that begin at the lymph nodes, where the cells there multiply out of control.

The lymph nodes swell and the Cancer cells replace the healthy cells, thus causing tumors.

Hodgkin's disease is a type of lymphoma that is common among children.
