Cancer Treatment and Breathing

Breathing is natural,
yet many ignore the benefits of proper respiration.

To inhale more oxygen, breathe in more naturally.





 

It is true that many people do not inhale and exhale properly.

They either gasp or they inhale shallowly. There is a right and a wrong technique.

The proper way to breathe is to inhale in from the abdomen by using your diaphragm to draw in the air.

The diaphragm is a large muscle that expands your lungs for longer and deeper breath.

Do not breathe in from the chest and shoulders because then your breath is short and shallow.

There is a relationship between breathing and stress, and we know stress causes all kinds of potential problems including Cancer.

When you respire incorrectly, it can produce tension and exhaustion easily.

When your respiration is correct, you can defuse tension and de-stress, thus having more energy and feeling more relaxed.

How to breathe naturally?

Good Breathing can be very natural.

To breath naturally, practice these breathing exercises till they become a habit.

  1. Have a good posture whether you are sitting or standing posture

  2. Breath through your nose and not through your mouth

  3. Lift up your nose slightly above your normal position

  4. Inhale and allow the air to fill your lungs from the lower part, middle part and then the upper part. You can feel the expansion of your abdomen, then your chest then your shoulders.

  5. Hold the air inside your lungs for 3 seconds.

  6. Exhale slowly, through your nose and relax your shoulders, chest and abdomen.

 

Even though breathing is automatic i.e. without your thinking about it, it is based on past habit.

Many develop bad breathing habits which result in an overall deterioration of health.

So when you begin to practice these breathing exercises naturally, you temporarily move from "automatic" to "manual".

Once you have developed the good habit of breathing properly, you will move back from "manual" to "automatic".

 

Oxygen-filled breathing

Breathing is an exercise to oxygenate all the cells in your body.

Cancer cells thrive in the absence of oxygen and breathing more oxygen is very beneficial for a Cancer patient to kill Cancer cells.

Without adequate oxygen, your body is also vulnerable to other health problems.

In a study published in The Lancet, cardiac patients who took shallow breaths per minute were more likely to have low levels of blood oxygen, which "may impair skeletal muscle and metabolic function, and lead to muscle atrophy and exercise intolerance."

Proper breathing increases the levels of oxygen in the blood and stimulates cell activities, which increases your fitness and mental abilities.

Breathing provides most of your energy because it supplies 99% of the oxygen. Without energy, you cannot move.

Heart attacks, cancer, strokes, pneumonia, asthma, speech problems, and almost every disease known to mankind is worsened or improved by how well we breathe, i.e. the quality of our breathing.

Cancer and breathing

Breathing problems such as shortness of breath (called dyspnea) is a common symptom for Cancer patients.

This problem is a result of the heart and lungs not receiving enough oxygen, and not able to provide it to the rest of the body.

For a lung Cancer patient, this is the main symptom.

Interestingly, even for patients that had undergone conventional Cancer treatment such as chemotherapy and radiotherapy, dyspnea can be one of the major side effects.

For those with breast and lung Cancer, the quality and composition of air that is exhaled from the lungs, is different from those of normal people.

Researchers have used dogs to detect Cancer by sniffing the breath of Cancer patients, including early stage Cancers that are hard to detect by other means.
