Mental Cleansing and Cancer

How is Mental Cleansing related to Cancer?
Is the Mind related to the Body?
Learn how you can overcome Cancer better by having a renewed Mind.

What is mental cleansing?

"What we think is what we really are". All the books on Management, Success, Health and Wealth always have one common truth and that is "Your thoughts determine your Future".

People are beginning to realize that your Mental Life plays a very important part in achieving your goals and purpose in life including Healing yourself of Cancer or even Prevention of Cancer.

Mental Cleansing thus deals with having a healthy Mental Life.

Just as we spring clean our home, closets and garage, we need to spring clean our body and mind. Our physical assets gather all kinds of dirt and pollution that need a good spring clean at least once a year.

spring-cleaning

In body detox, you learn that you should have a good spring clean for your body at least once a year too.

But What about your mind? Do you need mental cleansing?

You accumulate all kinds of junk thoughts, memories and associations throughout your whole life. They are kept way back at the back of your mind or your sub-consciousness, creating a mental toxic dumpsite. To get rid of this mental toxicity, you need to have a good mental cleansing. If not, they will resurface in your life and quite often in the form of stress related illnesses including cancers and heart diseases.

Why do mental cleansing?

Every person is a very unique individual and nobody is alike even identical twins. The reason is that every person faces an environment that is different from one another and this environment gives us our mental experiences that make us a truly unique person unlike any other.

Our environment comprises of our upbringing, our brothers and sisters, our spouse, our kids, our friends, our education, our social neighborhood, our religious upbringing, our work, and our exposure to the kind of media.

This environment determines what kind of mental life that we are having - what kind of attitudes, beliefs, judgments, right and wrong thinking.

Because we live in a world that is full of darkness as well as light, a world that has corruption as well as goodness; we unconsciously accumulate mental toxins in our mind and emotions that need to be cleansed.

The good news is that our mind is like a blank piece of paper. We can make that personal decision to fill that paper with goodness OR we can allow others to dictate how our paper should be.

In mental cleansing, you will make a personal decision to redraw that canvas of your imagination, the right kind of thinking that will remove all the mental toxicity that can give you sickness and diseases like cancer.

The Mind affects the Body

The Mind is different from the Body because a human being is made up of a trinity i.e. the spirit, soul and the body. The spirit is the real person within you. It is the heart. It is the part that gives us a consciousness of God because God is a Spirit, and our spirit relates to His Spirit. The soul is the expressive part of the person and made up of your Mind, your will and your emotions. Your body is the physical "house" that holds the spirit and soul together.

mental-work

Even though there are three differing functions of the spirit, soul and body, yet they are totally integrated and synergized together. It is just like a car that cannot work if it is just the engine alone, or the body alone or the electrical system alone. So likewise, our spirit, soul (including our Mind) and our body are totally related. What happens in the Mind affects our spirit and our Body. So Mental Cleansing is good for the spirit and body.

There were two recent studies done on breast cancer patients published in Lancet and Women's Health and Primary Care. Both of them concluded that there is a relationship between mental sicknesses such as depression, helplessness and hopelessness, and the increasing risk of cancer relapses or cancer related deaths.

Scientists have found that if you continue to harbor negative thoughts, they will promote negative physical reactions in your body. For example, when you are upset or disturbed, your blood pressure reading will go rise. Your heart may beat faster and your muscles will tense. When you are constantly angry, you stress your liver and kidneys. These negative thoughts feed us negative emotions and indirectly induce negative bodily reactions.

According to Dr. Nicholas Gonzalez, your body has a sympathetic nervous system that helps your body deals with mental stress. The system will divert the blood and the energy to the brain and the muscles, so that in a time of mental stress, you can think quickly and your muscles can react quickly as well. In so doing, the system shuts down the entire digestive system.

When people have an overworked sympathetic nervous system, and when the digestive system is continuously down, they have a higher risk of solid tumors of the breast, lungs, stomach, pancreas, colon, liver, prostate, uterus and ovaries. Mental cleansing removes these mental stresses, which in turn benefits the digestive system.

From the holistic viewpoint, Carolyn Myss wrote extensively in her book "The Creation of Health: The Emotional, Psychological, and Spiritual Responses that Promote Health and Healing" that cancer is created through excessive fear, guilt feelings, inability to cope with changes, self-hate and self-denial.

Debbie Shapiro in her book "The Body mind Workbook" states that "Cancer appears to be the result of many years of inner conflict, guilt, hurt, grief, resentment, confusion or tension surrounding deeply personal issues. It is connected to feelings of hopelessness, inadequacy and self-rejection."

Joseph Murphy wrote in his book "The Power of your Subconscious Mind" that the seat of our real mind is the subconscious. We view our world through thoughts in the subconscious mind. Think Good and good will follow; think evil, evil follows. Change your thinking and you will change your destiny. Mental cleansing renews those thought patterns.

Susan Bannerman, a clinical psychologist working with cancer patients (in her article As you think, so you become. Proc. 1st World Congress on Cancer, Sydney, 1999) states that "Illness is a reflection of a person's negative perception and self-defeating ways of thinking. Hatred, envy, selfishness, jealousy, self-judgment, self-doubt, self-criticism, lack of self-respect, feeling of unworthiness, etc. All these are negative and destructive thoughts. Do not harbor them for they do not help you at all. On the other hand, cultivate positive attitudes of love, joy, happiness, sharing, caring, self-esteem and self-confidence."

Dr. Chris Teo of CA Care, Penang, Malaysia: When you hate people, the only person who gets hurt is you, because most people you hate don't know. And the rest of the world doesn't care.

According to the American Academy of Family Physicians, two-thirds of office visits to family doctors are prompted by stress-related symptoms (mentally related).

How do you know you need Mental Cleansing?

If I were to tell you that everybody needs mental cleansing, you may not believe me.

If someone were to ask you whether there are any emotional burdens or unresolved emotional conflicts, definitely you will always answer No - for fear that someone may know your deepest secrets.

Well, an honest self evaluation questionnaire would be able to reveal that need.

Ask yourself these questions:

  • Do you dislike your body, thinking that it is too fat, or too thin, or too short, or too tall, or too ugly?

  • Do you hate or get fed-up with your present life, hoping that your life will turn around?

  • Do you feel that nobody loves you, or that nobody even cares about you?

  • Do you think that you will never get well and recover from your sickness or cancer?

  • Do you sometimes feel that you cannot think properly and that there are too many things to process in your mind?

  • Do you feel depressed after the doctor has given you some bad report about your health such as pronouncing that you only have so many months or years to live?

  • Do you think that you are not sociable and incapable of expressing yourself like others?

  • Do you feel that you had a rough childhood, and that you are unable to change for the better?

  • Do you think that you married wrongly and that your marriage is a result of a wrong choice?

  • Do you dislike your job and feel depressed in your working environment?

  • Are you constantly worried about finances and how to meet all the bills at the end of the month?

  • Do you get regular nightmares or horror dreams and feeling fearful that they may come to pass?

  • Does your mind wander away into unrelated circumstances when you are needed in a focused project?

  • Do you feel that your life has no meaning or purpose, and that you are heading nowhere?

  • Do you lack the motivation to get on with your life, to enjoy the daily events and activities?

  • Do you have trouble in mental concentration, with the tendency to dwell on the negative outcome rather than being optimistic about it?

  • Do you feel that you have been treated badly by your parents, and that you cannot change your present behaviors?

Well, if any of the above answer is yes, you need mental cleansing.

How is Mental Cleansing related to Cancer?

It is evident that the mind has a large play in the overall health of a person. When the mind is toxic, body functions are affected.

According to one of the Proceedings of the US National Academy of Sciences, a team of scientists reported that long-term, unrelenting stress on mothers can damage the DNA of their immune-system cells in a way that may speed up the aging process.

Numerous reports in Time magazine's researches put the primary environment that encourages Cancer Growth is Stress, Fear and Anger - all of these are products of Mental Toxicity. You need mental cleansing.

However, it must be said that Mental Cleansing is not a magic bullet or a fix-all-cure. There is no super-answer to curing cancer but it is a combination of mental cleansing and many other factors such as eating the right diet, body detox, breathing rightly, drinking rightly, and a strong belief in God as your healer - that will ensure your quick recovery from cancer.

Cancer is related to stress, fear and anger

When you are dealing with mental issues such as stress, fear and anger, there are no quick fix pill. This "instant" fix is always anticipated because of the present lifestyle of people who are so busy and fast paced that they always look for an instant fix.

no-stress

How do your cure stress or fear or anger with an instant fix? You can't. Mental cleansing is not an instant-cure-all.

The right approach is:

"Be transformed by the renewing of your mind".

The mind needs to be renewed so that new images can be drawn on that canvas of your mental faculty. Renewal takes time. Renewal takes patience. Renewal takes determination. Renewal takes consistency. So that answers your question of "Can you get rid of stress, fear and anger instantly?"

The result is transformation or a metamorphosis of the whole person from a "caterpillar" into a beautiful "butterfly"; from a sick person into a wholesome person. Mental cleansing transforms a person.

Stress is a mental burden that can drain you physically and emotionally. Stress causes many problems such as ulcers, headaches, high blood pressure and even heart attacks.

Fear is an uncertainty of the unknown that scares you such that you retreat away from living for tomorrow.

Anger is like a mental prison that paralyses you because you are bound to a wrong thinking, and may lead you to react violently and carelessly.

Then there are other mental poisons that can affect your wellbeing such as bitterness, unforgiveness, strife, jealousy, enmities etc.

If you are having cancer, discard all these mental toxins immediately through mental cleansing - if not you will die faster. Empower yourself with the right knowledge on how to cleanse your mind. Seek to know and be not ignorant so that you can understand your sickness better.

Medical science isolates the body from the mind, and treats the body only, but the underlying toxic mental environment is still there. They do not treat the mind. Unless, the mental faculties are cleansed, the cancer will relapse or refuse to lie low. The future of medicine should include mental cleansing.

How to do mental cleansing?

There are many methods and formulas out there for mental cleansing that range from psycho-kinesis to yoga to aromatic therapy.

However, as a Christian, I will show you the way of mental cleansing that I know best.

Step One

Recognize the sources of your wrong thinking and deal with them. As in natural therapy, we deal with the source, not the symptoms. In mental cleansing, you also deal with the source. Is it a childhood abuse? Is it a broken relationship? Is it words or curses that had been sown in your mind either by yourself or others? Did you have a bad school upbringing? Were you shamed or rejected by your peers or friends? What is the under-lying problem? What is bothering you constantly?

How do you deal with them? They seem to be so many. You may not have the mental strength to avoid or erase them personally. Let me introduce you to the greatest Healer in the Universe. God!

God is the greatest restorer of the Mind because He is the Creator and we are the Created. He knows best. He made our minds. He understands your mental faculty better than the best psychologist or psychiatrist in the world.

Talk to God and Cast all your wrong thinking to Him. Let Him help you do your mental cleansing. If you ask Him to remove all these mental toxins from your mind, I know He will do it. It may take some soul searching and some time, but eventually it is His Will that you should be successful and prosperous in your mind.

Step Two

Renew the Self Image in your Mind. Think of yourself as you are loved. You are a child of God. You are not cursed by God? God is not angry at you just because you have a sickness. God loves you because you are His creation. He has provided abundance in life for you whether you realize it or not. He does not condemn you. He is more interested to heal you of all kinds of sicknesses including cancer, than you are. Put your trust in Him because He does not lie. When you come to God, He does not cast you away because He has forgiven you of all your sins. He nailed all your sins and wrong doings at the Cross of Jesus Christ.

Healing you is His joy. Cleaning you mentally is His delight. Nothing is impossible for God to do. God knows you better than your oncologist. The doctor may say you have a few months to live, but God says He wants to satisfy you with long life. He does not delight in you dying in cancer, because that will give Him no glory, but He joys over you when you are healed by His healing hands.

In mental cleansing, you practice thinking on the things that God wants you to think. Don't allow harmful thoughts to remain. Replace them by thinking on whatsoever things that are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.

God wants to live in your body so He needs a healthy body. Don't worry about all your past events and abuses that you are ashamed of mentioning. God has forgotten them when you receive Him as your Savior. Let the past be in the past but the present and future belongs to you and God. God does not give us fear but a sound wholesome mind. In Mental Cleansing, you do not relive the past, but you live for the now and the future.

Step Three

Practice thankfulness for everything. You are a wonderfully created person living in a wonderfully created world. Do not take the daily common things for granted but be thankful for them. Begin by thanking God for the privilege of knowing Him as your Savior and Healer. Be thankful for the air that you breathe, the food that you have, the sunshine that rises upon you, the family that you are in (no matter how difficult relationships can be), and the friends that cross your paths. Be thankful for all the body functions that are intact - even if you are still under therapy for cancer. Be thankful for your employment, your work, your business. Mental cleansing is also changing from an attitude of ungratefulness to gratefulness.

Write a thank you card to someone and tell them that your life is more complete with knowing them. Remember to wish all your friends on facebook and elsewhere happy birthday and thanking them for the opportunity of friendship.

God gave you a gift of 86,400 seconds today. Have you used one to say 'thank you?'
...William A. Ward

thank-you-card

Do you know that when you are thankful, you are happier? Happy people are healthier than unhappy people. Happy people also live longer than unhappy ones. Your thankfulness washes away all the anxiety that weighs you down that make you age faster.

Send me a thank you e-note if you are helped by what I write in this website (just kidding!).

Many people who practice daily gratitude will tell you that their outlook of life has improved. They are better people and always have a sense of calmness and peace.

Thankfulness gives you optimism and hope for your healing. It releases hormones in your body to make you feel euphoria of wellness so that your body will respond better to all the rest of the therapy. It causes biochemical changes in your brain that in turn affects your body's physiology. When you practice thankfulness you focus on the positives and not on the negatives, and your body responds likewise.

Step Four

Exercise gives you a clear mind. Exercise can relieve you of stress or worry - a potential cause of cancer. Do you know that you have a personal responsibility to take care of your human body including your mind?

John McCarthy, executive director of International Health Racquet & Sportsclub Association says, "Regular physical activity can help counter the potentially damaging effects of stress on the body and may help prevent stress-related illnesses. These activities provide a natural way to release tension in the body and will often lead to an automatic state of relaxation that naturally follows a good workout."

exercise-running

In many health clubs today, the trend is moving away from activities focusing simply on muscle and cardiovascular training to those that focus on overall wellness and total body health. They have re-discovered the ancient truth that a good workout does benefit the mind and emotions besides the body. Exercise promotes mental cleansing resulting in a clear mind.

In one of the international edition of Newsweek, researchers have already proven that physical exercise sharpens the mind, improves brain function and delay onset of incurable diseases such as Alzheimer's disease and cancer. In the UK, light exercises are used as an effective non-drug treatment for mild to moderate mental depression.

The World Health Organization (WHO) has found that if people engage in at least 150 minutes of moderate physical exercise a week, the risk of breast and colon cancers is drastically reduced. They found that exercising cancer patients has improved work capacity, lower heart rates at given exercise intensity, increased maximum workloads and time to exhaustion than non-exercising patients did.

Physical activity is a critical component of energy balance, the term researchers use to describe how weight, diet, and physical activity influence health. Several studies have also reported links between physical activity and reduced risk of endometrial (lining of the uterus), lung, and prostate cancers.
...US National Cancer Institute

Step Five

Meditate on the wonderful promises of God found in His Word - The Bible. This is the best meditation of all meditations. This is unlike the other kind of meditation where you empty your mind but on the contrary, you should feed your mind with these great and precious promises.

Let me tell you why you shouldn't empty your mind. You may feel that you are doing well when you are emptying your mind, but what happens when you are back to the routine of daily living? Those negative thoughts and mental toxins will come back because you have not filled your mind with other alternatives. An empty "cup" will always be available to be filled, but a full "cup" will be satisfied.

Furthermore, after you have emptied your mind, do you know that you have nothing to stop others from feeding you junk thoughts again? Mental cleansing is not emptying your mind. Mental cleansing is replacing the wrong mental thoughts with the right ones.

Look into the good and loving promises of the Bible and adapt them in a present tense and in a personal form. When these thoughts are planted like a seed in your mind, they will take root in your sub-conscious and bear fruit in your whole being. Use these promises to have a thorough mental cleansing.

Here are some of them for you to personalize:

  • God's angels minister to me
  • God's Spirit and anointing rest upon me
  • God covenants with me to save, deliver and bless me
  • God will direct my paths
  • God will reveal His wisdom and truth to me
  • Nothing can separate me from the love of God
  • God will give me long life until I am satisfied
  • God blesses me and favors me
  • God is my protector, my strength and my healer
  • God forgives me does not remember my sins anymore
  • God cares for me and loves me
  • God always take care of all my needs
  • God says my body, emotions and mind will prosper and do well
  • God renews my youthfulness
  • God gives me His perfect peace
  • God always hear my prayers
  • God's goodness always follows me all the days of my life
  • God always give me His good rest and sleep

Meditation does not have to be silent. You can meditate on these promises vocally to yourself or you can choose to voice over them inside your mind. It is a personal preference.

As for me, I like silent meditation. I allow myself to be soaked in these promises, mulching them over and over again in my mind, mentally cleansing myself of all the negative thoughts. To do that I look for quiet surroundings with privacy, meditate on these promises and see myself as healthy and free from any sicknesses including cancer.

I relax myself, close my eyes, inhaling deeply, expanding my chest and exhaling slowly. This will calm the nervous system and slows down my heart rate. You can choose whatever physical posture you are comfortable in, whether sitting, standing or lying down. Sometimes you are so peaceful and relaxed that you can fall asleep. That's alright. Just do it.

Step Six

Rest and Sleep is important. Whether you are doing a mental cleansing or a body cleansing, adequate rest is vital for the body to work internally undisturbed by our outside activities. You need exercise, but you need to balance it with adequate rest.

A study presented at the American Association for Cancer Research's Seventh Annual International Conference on Frontiers in Cancer Prevention Research suggests that regular physical activity can lower a woman's overall risk of cancer – but only if she gets a good night's sleep. If you do not get that rest, the lack of sleep will undermine the benefits of the exercise program. You need at least seven hours of sleep to maximize the benefits of all the other inputs for cancer treatment or cancer prevention.

If you sleep less than six hours every night, you will be accumulating a "sleep debt" that can affect your normal cognitive abilities. Did you notice that if you skip a night of sleep, you really need a long period of recovery, just to be back to your normal self?

If you cannot sleep, take the time just to have quiet moments to relax. Enjoy the moments of peace and meditate on what is in Step Five.

Dr. James McClain from the US Cancer Prevention Institute pointed out that full cancer prevention benefits comes from being active AND getting enough rest, not just sleeping more without exercise. He added, "What that suggests to us is that among younger and middle-aged women, both physical activity and sleep habits might play an important role in reducing cancer risk. Getting adequate sleep has been long associated with health."

According to Dr. Nicholas Gonzalez, the parasympathetic system (opposite of sympathetic system - see above) repairs and rebuilds, and it turns on at night when we are asleep. It is responsible for digestion and increases the efficiency of digestion and secretion of hydrochloric acid, enzymes from the pancreas, and the bile salts from the liver. It increases the absorption of nutrients, stimulates the repair of damaged tissues, and basically is a reparative system.

When you are resting or sleeping, you allow the body to relieve itself of all the daily stresses and receive mental cleansing.

In fact, the lack of sleep is also linked to other serious conditions such as diabetes, stroke, heart disease and depression besides cancer. How well you sleep will affect the balance of hormones in your body. Your body produces different type of hormones during your sleep and when you are awake. These hormones affect your circadian rhythm. The circadian rhythm is the sleep/wake cycle.

sleeping

An irregular circadian rhythm may increase cancer risk due to irregular doses of melatonin, the hormone that the brain makes during your sleep. What is melatonin? It is an anti-oxidant that helps your body to suppress harmful free radicals. When your circadian rhythm is irregular, your body produces less melatonin making you less able to fight against cancer.

According to Brain Behavior Immunology published issue October 2003, a regular circadian rhythm is important for the body to defend against cancer. If the sleep/wake rhythm is disrupted due to stress or other factors, cancer growth is promoted.

We are not saying that if you sleep and sleep and sleep, you will be free from all diseases. A single action like sleep does not prevent you from all types of diseases, but when you combine all the healthy lifestyle habits that are in this website, you have a total solution to maintaining good health.

A good balance of exercise, a balance diet of natural organic foods, a healthy mental attitude, a clean detoxed body together with a good daily rest, will go a long way to strengthen your body and protect you from chronic degenerative diseases.

and lastly,

Step Seven

Guard against garbage that toxifies your mind. There is no point in doing mental cleansing if you are constantly polluting the mind with toxic mental waste. You may be caught up in a vicious cycle of despair if you don't guard against wrong mental input.

We live in a world that is so filthy spiritually, morally and mentally, that unconsciously we are washed in together with its tide. There need to be a personal conscious effort to guard against such input. This is somewhat similar to having a gated wall fence to ward off lurking stray dogs from entering. Guard your mind passionately.

Our media is corrupted. Be vigilant and turn off garbage that comes from the television, iPod, radio, tabloid gossip, pornography, improper web browsing and addictive digital games.

Reject bitterness, unforgiveness, hatred, enmity, fightings, jealousy, rivalry, anger, envying, drunkenness and lust from your mind. Many patients when diagnosed with cancer withdraw into a cocoon of self blame, guilt, anger, sadness, resentment, doubt or shame. Reject them with mental cleansing. Refuse any forms of depression or self centered embarrassment.

If you have a cold-hearted oncologist, void of any relationship skills, telling you that you have only three or four months to live, change to another doctor. Reject hopelessness for there is always hope regardless whether it is stage I, II, III or IV. Similarly, stay away from negative people who judge, confuse or criticize you. Instead surround yourself only with positive ones who can love you, care for you, and support you emotionally and mentally.

Fill your mind with laughter, comedy, optimism, positive encouragement, hope, faith, future plans, joy, peace, love, kindness, goodness, thankfulness, inspiring figures and good feelings.

These Seven Steps are not just the ways to do mental cleansing but also for you to maintain your mental health. I encourage you, cancer can be overcome easily after you have gone through your mental cleansing.
